Solastalgia’ is an ethically sourced taxidermy rat suspended within a 60’s radio.
The word solastalgia is a relatively new word that describes the psychological distress caused by global warming and climate change. It is a portmanteau of two words, solace and nostalgia.
The idea of solace (comfort in a time of great sadness) is conveyed by the rat, which seems to be peacefully sleeping, and nostalgia (the pain of remembering the past) is conveyed by the radio, a retro object from an era when the future seemed much brighter and environmental issues were of little concern.
